What to Expect

Oregon has only recently emerged as a source for premium wine and is winning fans over to their somewhat earthy style of Pinot Noir. With vineyards a bit cooler than most of California's, yet warmer still than Burgundy, Oregon's Pinot Noirs feature a synthesis of ripe fruit, ripe structure and transparency that draws on the strengths of both. The wines tend to have a touch of earthiness and a sense of transparency that many Pinots from California lack yet the fruit profile, full of dark berries, is decidedly warm-climate in nature.

Winemakers Notes

By Josh Raynolds Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, May/Jun 06 Dark red. Ripe cherry and plum jam on the nose, with hints of tar and espresso. Quite ripe and full, with ripe cherry and dark berry flavors that deepen with air. Finishes on a rich, slightly sweet note of berry confit, with a touch of warmth and some dusty tannins.

This brilliant, deep garnet Pinot Noir displays raspberry, cherry and plum aromas, with hints of oak-cedar, cinnamon and vanilla on the nose. With a soft, viscus round entry, cherry and vanilla flavors are accented by cedar and oak. Beautifully balanced, with well integrated oak and a solid acid structure, this wine offers a long, soft, creamy finish.

I will buy this one for sure. Enjoyed it at a local restaurant Saturday night. Had a soft entry but with a slight acidic feel to it. Nicely balanced in that regard. The fruit was cherry and blueberry that popped out at me. We enjoyed this before moving on to a cab with our steaks and it was quite delicious.

Between their tasting notes and my palette lies an expansive gulf. I'll gamely blame myself but even then, I cannot recommend a wine of this quality and this price from the Willamette--check my other reviews for proxies.
