- In Maori legend, Tane is Lord of the Forest.Tane is produced only in the best vintages, and vineyards and varieties will vary with each blend. Due to the excellence of the red grape vintage in Hawke's Bay in 1999, Tane is a blend of 95% Wicken Cabernet Franc and 5% Te Awanga Merlot. After rigorous early pumping over, to extract maximum flavour and colour, the wine received extended post fermentation. Once pressed the wine was racked to predominately new oak barriques. Racked at the change of each season, the wine stayed in oak for 14 months. Tane is a full-bodied New World dry red wine.
