Kim Crawford Sp Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc Spitfire Mkii 2008
This wine derives its name from the vineyard, the Delta, which was used as an air force training base during World War 2. It is seldom that a single vineyard gives a full spectrum of flavours to make a complete wine. When optimum ripeness was established by the viticultural team, the grapes were machined harvested without preservative and immediately processed. Cold settled for 36 hours the juice was then racked and inoculated with yeast. A temperature-controlled fermentation ensured that the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc vitality was harnessed. Once dry the wine was stabilised and bottled. This is hugely aromatic and intense with nettle, sweat, grapefruit and tropical notes, which are underscored with the typical herbaceousness - all characteristics of good quality Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.The palate is powerful with sweat, dry herbs, gooseberry and tropical fruits. Full flavoured, the wine’s inherent sweet fruit characters are dried nicely by the alcohol and acidity. Great longevity of flavour.
One of the reasons why New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs have taken the world by storm. Delightful to the point of exuberance, this is a great wine for drinking alone of with lighter fare.
On the nose, I found a strong green bell pepper and asaparagus aroma, followed by white flowers and citrus. There were strong bell pepper and asparagus flavors when tasting the wine, as well, but the flowers did not appear in the mouth. Instead, there was a nice blend of grass, lime, and peach. Pale yellow color. Passion fruit on the nose. Clean taste of guava and more passion fruit with a very long finish. i also get hints of bell pepper.
Great example of a NZ SB. I get lots of grass, herb, and lychee with a little citrus in there too. Great acidity, nice and crisp. Very good wine at this price point!
Citrus (lime, grapefruit) with a touch of kiwi fruit to the nose; very fresh tasting. A nice wine to sip on a sunny spring day.
Loved this wine. I am not a huge white wine drinker either. I love the crisp, citrusy flavor and fine finish. Very elegant Sauv blanc which typically leave me with the....eh...factor. Eh.it was ok. Nothing to write home about. But this one...was fabulous.
Big aromatic Sauv Blanc. Get a bit of spice in nose, some citrus, some honey ... lots of things going with the aroma. Mild acidity, lemon, citrus and a bit of honey on the taste. GREAT value.
Great Sauvignon Blanc. Citrus notes dominated by grapefruit followed by pineapple and floral notes. Finishes up clean and crisp.

The kiwi flavors of this wine need air to gain clarity, moving through a citrus pith character before resolving cool and crisp. A spark of bright flavor for any raw shellfish.
Color: Pale straw with touches of green. Aroma: Classic Sauvignon characters of gooseberry, passionfruit and a touch of African sweetgrass. Palate: Unfolds with flavours of passionfruit, gooseberry and subtle herbaceousness. The wine is mouthfilling with good texture and finishes well with crisp acidity and great length.
