What to Expect

Sauvignon Blanc has a long history in France, and is even one of the parents of the most famous grape of all, Cabernet Sauvignon. Though having achieved high levels of acceptance and popularity in France, Sauvignon Blanc was more commonly associated with specific regions or villages, Pouilly Fume for example. With its arrival in new Zealand, and the country's ability to draw out a level of intensity from the grape, it was poised for bigger and better things. New Zealand's Sauvignon Blanc is often suggested as an alternative to Chardonnay. Its incredibly bright flavor, snappy acidity and fresh, easy feel are a perfect contrast to the rich, buttery full-bodied style of Chardonnay that is most popular. The citrus, pineapple and kiwi fruit tones most common in New Zealand's Sauvignon Blanc are paired with intensely green aromatics that recall gooseberries, freshly cut grass, and jalapenos, offering an unusual and unusually compelling blend of savory and sweet that has found a huge following.

Winemakers Notes

PRODUCTION NOTES

Selected from various low yielding vineyards in the Wairau, Brancott, Waihoepai and Awatere valleys, these Sauvignon Blanc grapes were machine harvested and protectively handled. After juice clarification the wine was innoculated with pure, aromatic yeast strains and cool fermented. Once dry the wine was stabilised, filtered and bottled.

Reviews

The 2007 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough is one of the most refreshing wines on the market. An intense nose of citrus, predominantly grapefruit, is backed up by a medley of ripe fruit flavors, namely melon, white peach and lychee. Crisp and acidic, this is the quintessential warm weather white wine.

Wine Skinny

Offers classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc character, with intense grapefruit aromas and flavors mingling with crisp nectarine and green tropical melon, with fresh herbal notes lingering in the background. Great acidity, refreshing and pure, with a long, mouthwatering finish. Ready to drink now.

Crisp citris, slightly grapefruit aroma, balanced acidity with almost a lemonade quality on the tongue. Glad to see the grapefruit wasnt overwhelming. My first impression was that it reminded me of riesling.
