Kim Crawford Red Bordeaux Blend Hawkes Bay Cabernet Franc/Merlot 2005
Kim Crawford Wines was established in late 1996, when Kim launched a range made from fruit grown in the South Island. Kim sold the company to Constellation in 2005 and has since handed the winemaking reins over to the Constellation winemaking team. Control over grape supply has always been essential for the Kim Crawford range and Constellation has maintained good contacts with growers in the region, ensuring consistency of quality and style. Deep rich crimson in colour with youthful purple hues. On the nose it has classic cigar box aromas, with notes of cedar, dried herbs and red fruits. The palate is rich, almost Christmassy, with spicy ripe berry fruit characters, some dried herbs and good structure which balances rather than overwhelms the fruit character. Long, spicy finish.
One of the reasons why New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs have taken the world by storm. Delightful to the point of exuberance, this is a great wine for drinking alone of with lighter fare.
