Kim Crawford Pinot Noir Marlborough Anderson Vineyard 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Medium depth of colour with purple and crimson notes. An aromatic wine with black cherries and red currants on the nose, complexed with integrated oak and a smoky bacon character. A nice combination of dark cherries and red fruit abound. This is underscored with a hint of oak and firm tannins. Persists well.

Kim Crawford Wines:
One of the reasons why New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs have taken the world by storm. Delightful to the point of exuberance, this is a great wine for drinking alone of with lighter fare.
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

1) Smoky, pepery cinnamon and plums on the nose 2) Cherry, Raspberry and stewed plums on the palate with slight hints of strawberry and truffle. Oaky. 3) Well balanced. 4) Nice smooth finish accompanied with excellent length. D 5) Tannins powerful but decent due to youth of wine.

I agree with most of the reviews written -- including the fruit notes. I really liked the smoky overtone that dressed this wine up.

Very smooth. Not as interesting as some other Pinots. Not the best value.

2006 13.5% ABV Pinot Noir 750mL $16.99 Nose reminds me of burning oak in a musty basement; very earthy, damp and smoky with some stone fruit added in. Brownish amber in color. Oak, cherries and a bit earthy. Not overly tannic. Nice staying power. Not as complex as many other Pinots.

Flavors of cherry and wild strawberry, silky tannins, and a light kiss of oak all hang in perfect balance here, and the finish lingers. Another in a string of tremendous efforts from one of the most talented Pinot Noir producers in New Zealand.
