External Reviews for Kilikanoon Shiraz the Lackey
This winersquo;s oak is integrated into the texture and flavor, making it chocolatey rich, with blue-black, minty fruit. For grilled lamb.
This complex red offers layers of spice and mineral that weave through the ripe blackberry and licorice flavors, playing against a light burr of tannins as it all lasts on the generous finish. Drink now through 2014.
Inky ruby. Smoky lift to the aromas and flavors of blackberry, cassis and licorice. supple and ripe (this clocks in at 15% alcohol), offering sweet dark berry preserve flavors and a kick of cracked pepper. Not the last word in finesse or complexity, but packs a wallop of dark fruit flavor and finishes round and sweet.
The Shiraz lineup begins with the bargain-priced 2006 Shiraz ldquo;The Lackeyrdquo; which was aged for 15 months in seasoned American oak and bottled without fining or filtration. It offers a stylish bouquet for its humble price featuring aromas of cedar, bacon, plum, and blueberry. This leads to a medium-bodied wine with good grip, intensity, and length. It is a Best Buy.
Kilikanoon produces some of the worldrsquo;s finest value-priced, full-flavored, dry reds. The 2005 The Lackey (which is made exclusively for the American importer) emphasizes the ripe, classic, South Australian Shiraz grape aged in old oak and bottled with no fining or filtration. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and elegant, it reveals plenty of berry fruit, pepper, chocolate, and new saddle leather characteristics. Drink this spicy, earthy effort over the next 2ndash;3 years.
One of the top values in this portfolio is the 2003 The Lackey, which was aged in old American hogsheads and bottled unfiltered. This big, chunky, peppery, black cherry, currant, forest floor, earth, and spice-scented Shiraz possesses good flesh, medium body, and a savory, corpulent mouthfeel. It is ideal for drinking over the next 2ndash;3 years. Foreign subscribers should note this cuvee is marketed outside the United States under the name Slap Shot, since it is a joint venture with Russian hockey legend, Igor Larionov. This is one of the most brilliantly run wineries in Australia, and the quality of the entire portfolio is impressive thanks to the enviable talents of winemaker Kevin Mitchellhellip; also one of South Australiarsquo;s ldquo;good guys.rdquo;
