Kilikanoon Oracle Shiraz 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

The world’s leading wine critics have lauded the Kilikanoon Oracle, which has been awarded the Shiraz Trophy at the 2004 International Wine & Spirit Competition. Described by judges as, “Outstanding quality. Lovely spicy fruit with immense weight of luscious fruit, excellent acid balance, complextiy and great length.." it jockeys for positioning as one of Australia's finest Shiraz. Being Kilikanoon’s flagship Clare Valley wine, the Oracle, is mostly sourced from the dry grown Mort’s Block vineyard located in the Leasingham district. Cellaring potential of at least 12 – 15 years Kilikanoon's Oracle has enjoyed growing recognition amongst Australian and international wine critics winning numerous awards since it's inception. "Soft, fleshy, fruit--driven palate has an oaky edge and great zippy acid. A well-made wine built to last" -Winestate. Traditional methods of vinification were used for the Oracle thoughout the wine making process, fermentation taking place in small open vats and gently processed through a basket press. The wine spent twenty four months maturation in French oak hogsheads before careful blending and bottling. Alcohol 15.0%. Appearance is intense, an inky crimson deep red velvet colour with distinct youthful, purple hues. Lifted sweet plum and berry fruits are dominant in the ample bouquet. There are lifted hints of coffee, chocolate and menthol, integrating with fine and complex spicey French oak characters. Palate is richly textured and flavoured, initial sweet plum and berry fruits integrated with the firm tannins and a smooth, alcohol finish. The palates natural acidity and subtle oak characters provide length, complexity and persistence.
