The 2005 Shiraz "Oracle" was aged in 100% French oak, 50% new. Purple-colored, it exhibits aromas of cedar, damp earth, mint, blueberry, and blackberry. Made in a focused, racy, elegant style, it has luscious flavors, excellent balance, and a long, pure finish. It has several years of aging potential but can be enjoyed now and over the next 15 years.
Saturated violet. Explosive, wild aromas of blackberry liqueur, cassis, licorice root and espresso. Boasts impressive weight and power on the palate, the dark berry flavors wonderfully sweet but also focused and firmed by solid tannins. Awfully primary right now but possesses superb concentration of fruit and fine-grained, well-managed tannins. Finishes long, on a note of sweet licorice.
The dense purple-colored 2004 Shiraz Oracle ratchets up the fruit and glycerin levels, yet remains pure, elegant, and well-balanced. It offers beautiful aromas of blueberries, blackberries, acacia flowers, and spicy oak. Full-bodied, powerful, cleanly textured, long, and heady, I would not be surprised to see it evolve for 15-20 years.
The 2002 Shiraz Oracle, which I reviewed last year, has gotten even better with an additional year of bottle age. From the Clare Valley (a slightly cooler climate region), it spent 24 months in 100% French oak (50% new), and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Its inky/purple color is accompanied by sumptuous aromas of graphite, blueberries, blackberries, cassis, and subtle oak. There is great fruit on the attack, full body, wonderful elegance, precision, and purity, tremendous length and persistance, sweet tannin, and good acidity that provides definition to this majestic wine's amply endowed components. Give it another 2-3 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following two decades.
Dark and velvety. A vivid mouthful of violet-scented blueberry and plum on a creamy texture that lets the finish roll on and on. The tannins are well-integrated. Best from 2009 through 2016.
This is polished, focused and beautifully expressive, with seductive blackberry, cream, sweet leather and spice flavors waxing and persisting through the long, generous finish. Drink now through 2016.
Dark ruby. Explosive aromas of ripe blackberry, blackcurrant and smoked meat, with abundant oak spice. Velvety and fat, even unctuous in the mouth, with kirsch, blackberry preserve, mocha and licorice candy flavors carrying a heavy load of tarry oak through the rich, fat finish. Seriously concentrated, rich and exotic shiraz, but the oak is dominating the fruit today.
