What to Expect

Riesling is a chameleon of a grape, able to produce world class wines that range from bone dry to unctuously sweet. Germany is most closely associated with Riesling, where all styles are made and the range of flavors runs the gamut from steely and crisp with crunchy mineral-driven flavors to fresh lime, apple and peach flavored expressions - even rich honied, candied fruit tones in the great dessert wines.

Winemakers Notes

2007 RIESLING KICK ON RANCH
Santa Barbara County

Northern Santa Barbara County, with mountain ranges that run east-west, is blessed with cooling summertime ocean breezes. We in Ojai are not, because there is a mountain blocking the way. When Ojai is hot, from July through early September, my taste in wine wanders to light, acidic red wines and particularly to crisp white wines. Zippy Chardonnays, taut Sauvignon Blancs, and dry Rieslings are what I enjoy when the thermometer goes above 90 degrees.

Editorial Reviews

At first a reticent nose, what is here is lightly honeyed, with nice pressed floral tones, very elegant and very retrained, there is some real salty minerality that grows on the nose with emerging notes of petrol, quince paste, dusty stones and a hint of vitamin. Very fine entry, big acids but fairly well integrated, nice finesse in the mouth with some rather subtle but intense mandarin orange, almost quince, mineral and a huge almost salty mineral finish, then some peach pit and lime pith note, absolutely lovely stuff. I wine I want to drink more of. 92pts
