Kew Reserve Chardonnay 2010

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Smoky with bacon on the nose and plenty of oak-induced, smoldering wood and marshmallow aromas. A bit big and blowsy on entry, though this does offer nice blend of fruit and minerality, with good depth to the core of apple fruit. There’s good length here with the obvious, fairly spicy oak imprint lying over some pineapple fruit on the finish before heavy coffee oak notes take over. 87pts

Kirkpatrick Estate Winery is nestled close to where Kirkpatrick families have farmed for 150 years, on the world-renowned Patutahi Plateau, and is one of Gisborne's terraced vineyards. Kirkpatrick Estate Winery, Gisborne's newest winery label in 2004, was established a year earlier when Simon Kirkpatrick purchased the winery and its quality 5 to 20 year old vines of Merlot, Chardonnay, Malbec, Gewürztraminer,Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon. With the expertise of NZ award-winning winemaker Anita Ewart-Croy, all six Kirkpatrick wines have already become medal winners (in fact 50 medals to date). Kirkpatrick Estate Winery is one of a very few winery and vineyard sites in Gisborne, this allows winemaker Anita Ewart-Croy to concentrate on producing high quality estate grown wines. The 8-hectare vineyard is planted on a terraced hill. Visitors are warmly welcomed at the Cellar Door to taste some of their excellent wine which can be accompanied by delicious KEW Anti-pasto platters. Call in and visit our Cellar Door that has absolutely exquisite views of the Patutahi Plateau and surrounding countryside where you can sip on one of the premium Kirkpatrick Estate wines and relax with a lovely antipasto platter containing Estate grown olives, freshly made onion marmalade, beetroot chutney, sun dried tomato, chorizo, fruit, dukka and Repongaere olive oil, served with freshly toasted bread. Or take one of our vineyard tours up to the Top Flat and viewing platform, where you can overlook the fantastic Patutahi Plateau appellation, seeing all the way out to Young Nicks head, where Captain Cook first sighted land of New Zealand. Kirkpatrick Estate Winery is the only Gisborne Winery Cellar Door to be open all year around. Please check our Cellar Door opening hours for details. Read less
