Kestrel Vintners Syrah(1999)
-
June 2007
- The GrapesPure estate gown fruit here. Our Kestrel View Vineyard was cropped well below Washington State norms (4.5 ton/acre) at 2 tons per acre. We shall endeavor to maintain a 2 - 2.75 ton per acre average in order to provide our winemaker with the brightest Syrah grapes possible. The WinemakingHarvested by hand and sorted with great care, only the riper, larger primary clusters were destemmed and crushed. Ten - fifteen percent whole berries were present in the fermentor. The yeast strain D-254 was utilized to conduct fermentation. The M.L. fermentation occurred in oak barrels during the read more...11 month aging period. French (50%) Hungarian (25%) and American (25%) oak barrels provided yet more bouquet and flavors. This is an un-filtered wine. The WineHailing from one of Washington State's greatest vintages to date, our 1999 Syrah represents all a red wine should be. Namely, deeply colored, richly fragrant, sensuous and completely satisfying. The aromas are of cassis, vanilla, blackberries, plums, black pepper and a touch of mother earth. The mouth-feel is silky and very full. From start to finish, this wine possesses seamless structure. The VintageIn a nutshell, 99 was a fabulous vintage. Ideal growing conditions coupled with proper crop-load resulted in superb quality fruit from our estate vineyard and contracted growers. In my fifteen years of winemaking, I have rarely witnessed better colored reds or wine structure regardless of variety! (hide)
