Kenwood Vineyards Vintage Red 2008
The 2008 bottling uses primarily Zinfandel and Petite Sirah to form a complex and delicious blend. Using the cuvée method, the winemakers keep each vineyard lot separate throughout fermentation and aging, thereby preserving the individual flavors of each vineyard. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the components are aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels for 15 months before blending.
Editorial Reviews for Kenwood Vineyards Vintage Red
A bit sweet on the nose with jammy red fruits, hints of vanilla and toasty spice all topped with some leathery accents and hints of black currants. Bright at first and starting out a bit on the light side, this almost explodes on the plate revealing a delicious core of red berry cherry and strawberry tinged fruit flecked with briary spice, judicious hints of toasty and milky oak and an herbaceous top note. This is moderately tannic in a bit of a rustic way, and while a bit of a throwback wine it really packs in a ton of flavor and fun. A bit of raspberry fades quickly on the modest finish, leaving behind a suggestion of sweetness and some nutty, marzipan like notes on the finale along with a little echo of cherry fruit.
