A little smoky oak on the nose over some sweet apricot tones. Red berry fruits all topped with vanilla and spice notes. Round and lush in the mouth with fairly intense slightly candied red cherry fruit. The acid sticks out a bit but helps to add some tension on the palate. The finish is modest and clean with a touch of wood framing the echo of the red fruit on the palate. Easy drinking and popularly styled. 86pts

My first bottle of a more complex--and more expensive--pinot noir. I recognize this is more dynamic than cheaper noirs, but I'm not sure I'm enjoying this more. Quite acidic compared to less expensive examples. I think my appreciation will grow as time goes on.

My rating is based on price & review readings cuz tasting is virtual. Probably will find it in New Orleans area @ Dorignac's & Martin's Wine Cellars for actual tasting. Seems like a best buy!

Balanced, elegant, not overripe or overly showy, but just a nice, appetizing, traditional Pinot.

This wine preserves the region's vital characteristics (well-ripened fruit and spice), although they've been diluted by necessity for commercial purposes, what with 28,000 cases produced. Light and soft, with delicate yet surprisingly delicious black-raspberry, smoke and cinnamon notes.

Winemaker Notes - The grapes for this Pinot Noir were grown in Sonoma County s Russian River Valley viticultural appellation. The Russian River empties into the Pacific Ocean and serves as a channel for the cool ocean fog to move inland from the coast. Kenwood produces its Russian River blend from vineyards located off River Road where the rocky soil and the ocean s cooling influence create the ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir grapes. Flavorful aromas of fresh raspberries and cherries followed by subtle notes of vanilla and cola; excellent acid balance with smooth tannins and a lingering finish.

Fairly light in color and texture, with a blend of cherry and herb flavors couched in medium acidity. Finishes moderately, with hints of tea and earth. Drink now through 2002.

Winemaker's Notes:

The grapes for this Pinot Noir were grown in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley viticultural appellation. The Russian River empties into the Pacific Ocean and serves as a channel for the cool ocean fog to move inland from the coast. Kenwood produces its Russian River blend from vineyards located off River Road, where the soil combined with the ocean’s cooling influence creates the ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir. Fifty-five percent of the fruit was harvested from our estate Russian River vineyards. A touch of Syrah was added to the final blend to supply additional body and complexity. The 2011 vintage had a light crop load and an unusually cool growing season that preserved the grapes natural acidity and fresh fruit flavors. The vines were harvested in late September and early October, with ten percent of the harvest under¬going whole-berry fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruity flavors of the grape. The wine was then aged in newer French oak barrels for 10 months. This vintage of our Pinot Noir serves up a delicious array of berry fruit flavors. The excellent aroma combined with its rich body and smooth tannins, makes for an exceptionally enjoyable wine.
