What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

Winemakers Notes

The grapes for this Pinot Noir were grown in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley viticultural appellation. The Russian River empties into the Pacific Ocean, and serves as a channel for the cool ocean fog to move inland from the coast. Kenwood produces its Russian River blend from vineyards located off River Road, where the rocky soil and the ocean’s cooling influence create the ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir grapes.

This full-bodied yet smooth Pinot Noir exhibits fruity aromas of strawberries and raspberries followed by subtle aromas of rose petals and fresh herbs. read more...

pas mal. and available at safeway in san francisco!

i had this once before on christmas and loved it. the second time, in san francisco for new years. and it was not as good. maybe i bought the wrong year. or maybe it paled in comparison to the merlot i had just before. i will have to try it again and see. i bought another russian river pinot noir at the Ferry building for $35 dollars on recommendation from the manager there (trying to avoid the $45+ range) and it was so not worth it. guess you can't really judge wine by the price & region. in california anyway.

Fantastic pinot noir. Something that everyone likes, great to bring as a host/hostess gift, or to entertain with!

Nice spicy, peppery character to this pinot, almost like a pinot-zin hybrid. It has all the great qualities of a good Russian River pinot noir with that added bonus. Try it!
P.S. It got even better and more complex the second day. It keep evolving and for the money, it's a great pinot!!
