User Reviews for Kenwood Merlot Cuvee R 005210 Kenwood Red
Add your review2009 Vintage - Garnet opaque hue, aromas of dried berries, game and spice; flavor notes of plums and boysenberries with good acidity and balance to a moderate finish.
A bit tight at first, needed some time to breathe. Once it opened up a bit it wasn't bad. Some black cherry and black currant on the nose and a little bit of smoke. Decent fruit on the mid-palate and finish. It's kind of non-existent up front, a little light if you will, but does come through after a bit. Finish lingers decently but not what I'd call "long". A little bit too oaky for my tastes but not bad. I've had worse. On a side note, by complete circumstance I discovered that this pairs extremely well with buttered popcorn. Seems odd to me, but it definitely works. The wine in and of itself to me is only average, however with buttered popcorn it is one of the better food/wine pairings I've had the pleasure to experience.
Vile wine. I Added soda water to this and it became drinkable. It like being corked, but its not TCA, it was something else. Cork was in good condition. Is this wine for real, or did someone microwave this stuff and I'm missing something?

Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the November 2010 issue. Fairly dense yet a touch withdrawn in the nose with hints of dark earth, tobacco and tea-leaf tied to a subtle note of black cherry fruit, this bottling follows as expected in the mouth and is a little tougher and less inviting than classic Merlot is wont to be. It is not wildly excessive in tannin, yet its shortfall of core fruit leaves it gritty and gruff all the same.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.
Medium-bodied with black cherry, spice, and vanilla oak flavors that finish with classic peppery Zinfandel notes.
Winemaker's Notes:
The vintage of 2007 had a warm summer followed by a mild fall that gently ripened the grapes. The Merlot crop was harvested in September and October as the individual vineyards reached the peak of ripeness and flavor. Each vineyard lot was fermented and aged separately in French & American oak barrels for 22 months. After aging, the wines were removed from barrels and blended for taste and balance just prior to bottling in July and August of 2009. A touch of Cabernet Sauvignon was blended into the final wine for additional complexity.
Tasting Notes:
Complex aromas of cherries, loganberries and spice. Full-bodied with excellent structure, smooth tannins and a long finish.
26,597 cases produced.
Closure: Cork
Notes: 28 months in 82% French oak and 18% American oak barrels
Chemical Analysis:
