Tight on the nose and nicely earthy with fairly heavy wood, the supporting fruit is there if slow to emerge. Has a nice, sweetly oaky nose. Very smooth and polished on entry with moderately rich black berry/black cherry notes splashed with mineral earth and charred wood notes. There’s some toasty marshmallow that pops on the back end, finishing with angular tannins, dried black fruit and solid length. Dried strawberry and vanilla on the finale. This needs a bit of time to sort itself out, but is pretty well balanced and nicely layered. 88pts

Just like the label, this a much darker side of the Zin world...there are deeper black fruit aromas going on and a lot more pizzazz in the mouth. I like this lone wolf.
Kenwood's 09 Jack London Zin had me at hello. Enticing aromas of cherry and blackberry, combine with spicy hints of anise, and black pepper. This classic Zin is fruit forward, jammy and delicious, followed by intense chocolate, and a spicy finish. This wine has a plush mouth feel, and a loitering finish.

Winemaker's Notes:
The Jack London Ranch creates distinctive red wines that have a loyal following throughout the world. The red volcanic soil and pleasantly warm climate of this hillside vineyard combine to produce rich, full-bodied wines. Located on Sonoma Mountain with an eastern exposure, this vineyard gets early morning sun and breezes in the afternoons that temper the day's most extreme heat. The Syrah at the Jack London Vineyard was picked in early October and fermented in stainless steel tanks for two weeks before it was pressed off the skins. It was then settled and racked several times before being put down into French oak barrels in early January of 2010. After barrel aging for 19 months, the wine was pumped out of the oak and prepared for bottling in September of 2011.

Aromas of pomegranates and sage are combined with hints of vanilla. In the mouth, firm, well-structured tannins are complemented by plum and fig flavors and long finish.
