Kenwood Cabernet Sauvignon Jack London Vineyard So 2006
The 2006 vintage had a long growing season with low yields resulting in grapes with intense flavor and rich character. The fruit was picked at the peak of ripeness in late September in early October and then crushed into stainless steel tanks for fermentation. After fermentation the young wine was pressed and settled before aging in French and American oak barrels for two years. The resulting wine has rich mouth feel as well as powerful fruity and aromatic flavors. Delicious now, this Cabernet will continue to develop and improve for at least a decade.
Nose of stewed plums. - Tasted at Total Wine & More 3/20/10
The 2006 Kenwood Jack London Cab is surprisingly elegant. Dare I say reserved, even? With nearly 5 years of bottle age, it is drinking beautifully right now and has benefited from the passage of time. For a CA Cab, it is reserved. Dark aromas and flavors seduce you....hints of smoke, cigar box, and a remarkable amount of chocolate on the finish. Full-bodied with black fruits predominating: black cherry, blackberry. Some baking spices add to the complexity: cinnamon & cardamom. There's serious dark earth in this, both on the nose and the palate. This is a brooding wine in the best sense of that term. It drinks like a significantly higher-end Cab, and is a real achievement on the part of Kenwood. I've got to give credit where credit is due. Well done, Kenwood!
It is not bad, but not yet great, hopefully another year in the cellar will open up some of the heavy tannin's I was getting from this merlot

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast"Delicious now for its dry, savory flavors of black and red cherries, red currants, violets, mocha and cedar. The sturdy tannins typical of this vineyard provide a fine structure. Lovely now with lamb chops."Winemaker's Notes"The 2006 Merlot crop from the London ranch was harvested in late September. The vintage had a mild growing season and a light crop that resulted in wines with excellent structure and ageability. The grapes were crushed and then fermented in stainless steel before aging in French and American oak barrels for 20 months.Vibrant aromas of fresh cherries with hints of bay leaf and vanilla, lively acidity is balanced by well structured tannins and an excellent finish."
winemaker's notes: A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and 3% Syrah compose this red wine. Rich and complex aroma with notes of boysenberries, mint, and chocolate covered cherries; a full-bodied wine with well structured tannins and an excellent finish.
