Jess Stonestreet Jackson, founder of Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, was a legend in the wine industry. Thanks to his dedication and skill, he popularized Chardonnay in the United States, with the best-selling Chardonnay in America for over 20 years. In 1983, just one year after he founded Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, his Chardonnay won the first double Platinum Award ever given by the American Wine Competition. Jackson passed away on April 21, 2011, at the age of 81, leaving behind the highest-selling brand of “super-premium” wine in the United States. In 1974, Jess Jackson and his wife, Jane Kendall, purchased and converted a pear and walnut orchard in Lakeport, California into a vineyard. In 1982, a downturn in the grape market discouraged Jackson from selling grapes, so he took the opportunity to create his own winery, Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates. This was a wise decision, since today, with 14,000 acres across California’s Sonoma County and numerous distinctions, Kendall-Jackson is one of the most successful wineries in America. Read less

Here's a supple, polished Merlot that shows lots of North Coast class. It's fully dry, with rich, smooth tannins and complex flavors of black currants, cedar and herbs. Good buy for under $20.

Well-balanced, and with good concentration to its blackberry, toasty oak and plum flavors. Herbal tones integrate with firm tannins on the finish. Drink now through 2005.

This medium-bodied Merlot exhibits aromas and flavors of plum, black cherry and blueberry, complemented by vanilla and toasty oak that add complexity. Great food pairings for this wine include grilled tuna or steaks, rosemary-seasoned roasted lamb, red-sauced pastas or strong cheeses.

An authentic tasting, light to medium-bodied, soft Merlot offering aromas and flavors of cherries, herbs, earth, and berry fruit. It is meant to be drunk over the next 2-3 years.

At this price VR is treading into high-priced waters, but quality is keeping up. The wine is rich and lush, with a fine balance of dusty tannins, crisp acids and direct blackberry, coffee and herb flavors.

a soft, pretty, supple Merlot marked by cherry aromas and spicy berry flavors. Soft and friendly, with plenty of charm, and enough acidity and tannins to lend it authority, although it's kind of one-dimensional.
