In what must be the New World's finest value in Chardonnay, there are slightly more that two million cases of the 2004 Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay, for the first time made completely from Jackson Estate vineyards. Eighty-five percent barrel fermented, with malolactic fermentation, this is undeniably the finest Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay K-J has made yet. A beautiful nose of orange skins, honeysuckle, and tropical fruit is followed by a medium-bodied effort with terrific fruit, good acidity, a subtle influence of wood, and a crisp finish. It should drink well for another 12-18 months.
Layers of tropical fruit, pear, apple and citrus complement integrated vanilla, spice and coconut in the aroma and flavor.
A clean, correct California Chardonnay, reliable as ever. Pear, peach and citrus flavors go down easily, buffered by graham crackery spice.
The delicious 2002 Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay (100% Chardonnay) exhibits copious quantities of tropical fruits, subtle wood, medium body, underlying crisp acidity, and admirable purity. It is one of the two finest Chardonnay values in the marketplace (the other being Cartlidge and Browne's Chardonnay).
Eighty-nine percent of the 2005 Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay Jackson Estates is aged 6 months in barrel with malolactic fermentation, which is pretty amazing considering the quantity and the sources. It is all coastal vineyards owned by Jess Jackson, with Monterey and Santa Barbara fruit composing three-fourths of the blend, and the rest from Mendocino. 2005 continues their streak of top-notch wines. Loads of tropical fruit, surprisingly deep texture, medium body, and wonderful purity results in a crisp, elegant, dry Chardonnay. It is ideal for drinking over the next 1-2 years. This is unquestionably one of the world's finest Chardonnay bargains. It is almost too serious for its price point.
The wine that made K-J famous is as good as ever, maybe better. Honeysuckle and pear aromas and a slightly dry oily, sweet mouthfeel are balanced on the finish by tart green apples.
Ripe with fruity flavors, oaky, and on the sweet side, a decent everyday sipper. It tastes like a tropical fruit sorbet, with good acidity.
