Jess Stonestreet Jackson, founder of Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, was a legend in the wine industry. Thanks to his dedication and skill, he popularized Chardonnay in the United States, with the best-selling Chardonnay in America for over 20 years. In 1983, just one year after he founded Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, his Chardonnay won the first double Platinum Award ever given by the American Wine Competition. Jackson passed away on April 21, 2011, at the age of 81, leaving behind the highest-selling brand of “super-premium” wine in the United States. In 1974, Jess Jackson and his wife, Jane Kendall, purchased and converted a pear and walnut orchard in Lakeport, California into a vineyard. In 1982, a downturn in the grape market discouraged Jackson from selling grapes, so he took the opportunity to create his own winery, Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates. This was a wise decision, since today, with 14,000 acres across California’s Sonoma County and numerous distinctions, Kendall-Jackson is one of the most successful wineries in America. Read less

Tasting Notes: This beautifully fruit-forward, layered wine is rich, complex and offers a sumptuous texture. This is a great example of the 2013 vintage and all of its glory. It has spiciness from the Zinfandel, fresh, lush red fruit and dark, red fruit tones from the Syrah, with a kiss of chocolate from the Merlot. Sumptuous tannins from the Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache envelope the mouth and linger beyond each sip, and a smile is brought to one’s face. Composition: 44% Syrah 25% Zinfandel 20% Merlot 6% Petite Sirah 3% Cabernet Sauvignon 1% Grenache 1% Other Varietals Growing Regions: 40% Mendocino County 39% Sonoma County 10% Santa Barbara County 7% Lake County 4% Napa County T.A.: 0.58/100ml pH: 3.75

A new addition to the portfolio is the 2009 Vintnerrsquo;s Reserve Summation, an intriguing blend of 33% Sauvignon Blanc, 27% Viognier, 15% Chardonnay and the rest Semillon, Roussanne, Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Muscat Cannelli, all largely fermented in stainless steel and neutral oak. It is a terrific perfumed, juicy white displaying a rainbow of tropical fruits in addition to crisp acids, medium body, a dry, flavorful mid-palate and lots of purity. This is a pleasure-giving, exciting, dry white that sells for a song. The only problem is that it needs to be consumed over the next 12 months, before they release the 2010.

Soft and grapey, this yields flavors of peach and lime pith as it opens with air. Touches of flowers and spice make it a wine to chill for poached prawns.
