Jess Stonestreet Jackson, founder of Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, was a legend in the wine industry. Thanks to his dedication and skill, he popularized Chardonnay in the United States, with the best-selling Chardonnay in America for over 20 years. In 1983, just one year after he founded Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, his Chardonnay won the first double Platinum Award ever given by the American Wine Competition. Jackson passed away on April 21, 2011, at the age of 81, leaving behind the highest-selling brand of “super-premium” wine in the United States. In 1974, Jess Jackson and his wife, Jane Kendall, purchased and converted a pear and walnut orchard in Lakeport, California into a vineyard. In 1982, a downturn in the grape market discouraged Jackson from selling grapes, so he took the opportunity to create his own winery, Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates. This was a wise decision, since today, with 14,000 acres across California’s Sonoma County and numerous distinctions, Kendall-Jackson is one of the most successful wineries in America. Read less

Lime and lemon emerge on the nose along with a touch of lemon verbena. Medium bodied, a bit soft and round for Sauvignon Blanc, this delivers clean slightly guava toned citrus flavors without any of the classic herbaceous character of Sauvignon Blanc. it’s easy to drink if just a bit heavy on the modest finish. 82pts

Subtle on the nose with vague herbal notes married to hints of mineral water and slightly candied lime and peach aromas. tart on entry and quite simple with a lemonade like flavor profile. There’s some weight on the palate but his is a neutral example of Sauvignon Blanc. Pleasant but no more and with very modest varietal character and almost no finish 80pts

A little cheesy on the nose with ripe pineapple and tangerine aromas topped with a gentle floral note. Tart and simple in the mouth with a bit of a thick feel to the vaguely orange and mango flavors that show modest depth. The acidity adds a light lime note on the finish before this disappears quickly on the modest finish. Remarkably neutral. 80pts

The nose showed ripe peach up front with notes of kiwi and lime. With time in the glass, aromas of green grass and spicy minerals joined the ripe fruits to present a very balanced bouquet. On the palate, it was crisp yet medium-bodied with melon, rich white fruits and a hint of bitter citrus. The finish tapered off with lasting pear and mouthwatering citrus notes.

Burst of flavor at first, smooth finish, but too acidic for my liking.

The 2011 Sauvignon Blanc Vintner’s Reserve is a tasty, straightforward wine with good varietal character and fine balance within its peer group. This pleasing, soft Sauvignon is an excellent choice for drinking over the next year or two. A dollop of other grapes, notably Semillon, adds complexity. Anticipated maturity: 2013–2015.

There’s a seemingly sweet edge to the lemon, lime and vanilla flavors, which are fortunately balanced with crisp acidity. Fans of richly styled white wines will like this bottling.
