Kendall-Jackson Pinot Noir California Vintner's Reserve 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Fairly herbal on the nose. Not intensely but noticeably herbal before chocolate and blackberry notes become more obvious. This is smooth as silk in the mouth with integrated acidity and soft tannins embedded in rich yet not particularly intense blackberry, black cherry and currant fruit. There's a nice dollop of vanilla spice ice cream on the back end, then more black cherry and vanilla ice cream flavors on the modest finish. Lots of easy appeal. 87pts

Jess Stonestreet Jackson, founder of Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, was a legend in the wine industry. Thanks to his dedication and skill, he popularized Chardonnay in the United States, with the best-selling Chardonnay in America for over 20 years. In 1983, just one year after he founded Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates, his Chardonnay won the first double Platinum Award ever given by the American Wine Competition. Jackson passed away on April 21, 2011, at the age of 81, leaving behind the highest-selling brand of “super-premium” wine in the United States. In 1974, Jess Jackson and his wife, Jane Kendall, purchased and converted a pear and walnut orchard in Lakeport, California into a vineyard. In 1982, a downturn in the grape market discouraged Jackson from selling grapes, so he took the opportunity to create his own winery, Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates. This was a wise decision, since today, with 14,000 acres across California’s Sonoma County and numerous distinctions, Kendall-Jackson is one of the most successful wineries in America. Read less

Entry level and should have probably been drank 18 months ago. But I just bought at a 50% off dale, so what the hell. Low energy nose equals low energy usually and this is no exception. Some raspberry and plum, a little spice, mild tannins short aftertaste. 83 points - Paul

Cherry, black pepper, and oak on the nose; the oak is more subtle in the mouth. A fruit forward wine that paired well with duck breast.

Lots of red berries on the nose. Otherwise pretty simple, non-complex, light. Went well with french creamy cheese

The 2012 Pinot Noir Vintner’s Reserve Special Select is 100% Pinot Noir coming mostly from Monterey County with a small quantity from Santa Barbara County. It was aged primarily in French oak and a small dosage of American oak, only 19% new. The wine’s light ruby color is followed by pretty strawberry and berry-like aromas and flavors, a delicious, medium-bodied, nicely textured mouthfeel, and good purity as well as silkiness. Moreover, as Pinot Noir goes, this is a reasonable value. It should be drunk over the next 1-2 years.

Trim and complex, if on a modest scale, with notes of dried berry, dried herbs and wilted flowers. Ends with a savory, earthy aftertaste. Drink now.

The 2011 Pinot Noir Vintner

Vintage: 2011 11/14/2013

The 2011 Pinot Noir Vintners Reserve is another screaming value. Sweet red berries flowers spices and mint all jump from the glass. Hints of tobacco add complexity on the close. A forward juicy Pinot the 2011 is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. Pinot is rarely inexpensive. This is just about as good as it gets for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016. -Antonio Galloni Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
