Not much going on on the nose here. Dried lemon fruit is backed up with notes of vanilla, dried ginger and a curious cherry note. This is a little sweet on entry, though it is full and soft with plenty of acidity to help keep things fresh and in balance. The palate is all lemon and creamy with hints of peach and buttered popcorn adding complexity. Fading rather quickly on the modest finish which ends on some spicy, raw wood notes. This is kind of flashy but lacks a little substance. 86pts

I'm a true Kendall Jackson chardonnay fan. This 2008 however is not as oaky and full bodied as what I would have expected from this vineyard. I was disappointed:(

The Kendall Jackson Grand Reserve has to be one of my favorite in-expensive white wines. Great value for a nice, crisp, dry chardonnay.

'Tropical flavors such as mango and pineapple dance with aromas of peach, apple and pear. Richly layered and balanced throughout. Lightly buttered toast headlines the indulgent, lingering finish.' - Randy Ullom, Winemaster

A very rich Chardonnay thatandrsquo;s creamy and smooth in the mouth. A touch of oak and lees gives weight and density to the lime and peach fruit, while brisk acidity contributes brightness. A great price for a wine of this distinction.

'Rich tropical fruit intertwines with grapefruit, lemon and candied lime peel. Elegantly layered, this wine exhibits a lush texture and firm backbone with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon spice to round out the long finish.' - Randy Ullom, Winemaster

The 2010 Chardonnay Grand Reserve emerges from the glass with lemon, minerals, white flowers and subtle French oak. The Grand Reserve impresses for its length and textural elegance, both of which are remarkable for a wine made on this scale. Estate owned vineyards in Santa Barbara and Monterey are the sources for the fruit. The Grand Reserve is aged in 100% French oak barrels, with 100% malolactic fermentation. Anticipated maturity: 2012–2016.

Well-oaked and buttery, but retains a lively citrus freshness. Green apples and pears fill the center while the framework is all buttered popcorn and crème brûlée.

Winemaker's Notes:

The Grand Reserve series includes the 2004 Grand Reserve Chardonnay, a blend of 52% Monterey and 48% Santa Barbara fruit aged 10 months in 100% French oak (30% new) with full malolactic fermentation. It is a serious, unmistakably California Chardonnay exhibiting loads of honeyed tropical fruit, medium to full body, and admirable freshness as well as texture. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.
