Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay Santa Barbara County Great Estates 2007
Quality Chardonnay for the price. Very clean look and a crisp taste. Light bodied and smooth mouth feel. Noted pineapple and tropical fruit tastes with slight dryness. Finish was pleasant but didn't last too long. All in all a descent Chardonnay.
This is a chardonnay made in a European style, I could be easily fooled into thinking it came from Burgundy or the Loire. Nose of mild dried flowers mixed with compost, almost a farm smell, balanced in the mouth with light and airy body and mild flavor similar to (dry) white grape juice with a hint of lemon and a citrus finish. Not much glyercin feel.
Quality chardonnay at a good price. Excellent with Chicken. Great cooking wine as well.
The wine has a light golden color. It's mellowed some from the same vintage I opened last year. Aromas of lemon, green apple and vanilla. The palate is dominated by citrus- lemon and grapefruit with a touch of sweetness. There's a moderate amount of acidity for balance. It's medium-dry with a nice richness to the mouthfeel. A bit of toasted oak is evident on the smooth medium finish.
Decent Chardonnay, but not as flowing on the palate as some
Though this wine is made in a similar style every year, I think the 2007 is my favorite vintage yet for the Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay. In fact, I found it as tasty as the slightly more expensive Grand Reserve Chardonnay - which is also an incredible bargain. Full, round, harmonious Chardonnay with plenty of tropical fruit flavors and spice along with enough acidity to keep it clean and refreshing. Amazing buy, especially when you can find it on sale at a place like Safeway for under $10.
I love this Chardonnay! Similar to the 2006, the 2007 may be even richer. Very full in flavor yet with a pitch-perfect level of balancing acidity. Rich, complex aromas and flavors include peach, apricot, and tropical fruits along with an orange-citrus edge, some slight oak toastiness and a sweet straw/leesy element. Mouth-coating richness and long finish, with not a hint of cloying over-ripeness or sweetness. Very fairly priced for the quality level.

'Tropical flavors such as mango and pineapple dance with aromas of peach, apple and pear. Richly layered and balanced throughout. Lightly buttered toast headlines the indulgent, lingering finish.' - Randy Ullom, Winemaster
Toasted hazelnut aromas lead to a supple mouth feel with flavors of brown butter and honey.
The 2008 Chardonnay Grand Reserve, which comes from their vineyards in Monterey and Santa Barbara, is a richer, fuller wine with loads of tropical fruit and honeysuckle. It is crisp, full-bodied, and again, an impressive wine to drink over the next several years.
kendall continues their streak of top-notch wines. Loads of tropical fruit, surprisingly deep texture, medium body, and wonderful purity results in crisp, elegant, dry Chardonnay." Robert M. Parker Jr., Wine Advocate
One of the finest values in Chardonnay in the market is the 2006 Grand Reserve Chardonnay, which is aged 8 months in a combination of French and American oak, and put through malolactic fermentation. It is a cross-appellation blend of 55% from Monterey and 45% from Santa Barbara. Gorgeous tropical fruits, pineapple in particular, as well as honeysuckle and some floral notes jump from the glass of this pure, rich wine that exhibits subtle oak but is dominated by its fruit. It's a beauty that should drink nicely for several years. Remarkably, there are 170,000 cases of it!
Monterey's cool-climate flavors of lemons and limes marry richer, more tropical Santa Barbara notes in this creamy smooth Chardonnay. Oak plays a prominent role, lending an edge of vanilla and buttered toast. This is a very good price for the quality.
