External Reviews for Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay California Grand Reserve
Ripe and polished, with creamy pear and hints of apple and spice, turning to citrus and spicy, anise-tinged oak. Drink now through 2001.
Clean, with ripe, moderately rich and complex pear, fig, apple and smoky oak nuances. Finishes with a sense of elegance and polish and hints of pear and lime. Drink now through 2000.
Well-oaked and buttery, but retains a lively citrus freshness. Green apples and pears fill the center while the framework is all buttered popcorn and crème brûlée.
The 1998 Chardonnay Grand Reserve spends 8 months in primarily French oak, and is put through full malolactic fermentation. It is a medium to full-bodied, juicy, tropical fruit-dominated effort with nicely integrated toasty oak, decent acidity and fine purity and balance. The biggest component is Santa Barbara fruit, but there are many other sources throughout California for this blended wine.
The 1997 Chardonnay Grand Reserve aged in 50% new oak exhibits a creamy, honeysuckle, ripe tropical fruit-scented nose with smoky oak in the background. It is a medium to full-bodied, ripe, lush, pure Chardonnay with a succulent, fat texture. Enjoy it over the next 1-2 years.
"This Chardonnay bursts with tropical flavors such as mango, papaya and pineapple with citrus notes that explode in your mouth. These flavors delicately intertwine with aromas of green apple and pear to create depth and balance throughout. A hint of toasted oak rounds out the long lingering finish." - Randy Ullom, Winemaster
Wine Advocate Review Rated 90 The 2008 Chardonnay Grand Reserve, which comes from their vineyards in Monterey and Santa Barbara, is a richer, fuller wine with loads of tropical fruit and honeysuckle. It is crisp, full-bodied, and again, an impressive wine to drink over the next several years. Wine Tasting Notes Elegant and tropical with hits of lemon and other citrus fruits. Notes of Fuji apple carry throughout this beautifully balanced and delightful Chardonnay. Lushly layered with an enchanting creamy texture and a finish that lingers on and on.
