Editorial Reviews for Kendall-Jackson Cabernet Special Select Vintners Reserve
Lots of dill and vanilla on the nose covers up some of the detail of the raspberry jam undertones. This is soft and smooth with super polished tannins and low acidity lending this a bit of mouth-filling richness. Though not sticky, this does lack some freshness, delivering ripe cherry and plum flavors wrapped in soft, creamy chocolate and cinnamon spiced nuances. A wine of texture more than flavor, easy to drink and a safe bet for a holiday gift. 86pts
This is one of those "Smells like walking into a Cinnabon" wines. Pure buttered/glazed strudel or pastry aroma. This wine is pretty sweet, and very fruity. Not much Cinnabon in the actual flavor, just mostly fruit and sweetness. Although it was a little bit buttery, and there was some vanilla. Don't take the fact that I am not rating it highly, as saying it's bad. It just doesn't fit my personal tastes. But if you are a fan of the buttered-pastry smelling wines. and a fan of big fruit, and some sweetness, this is a wine for you. But for me, it didn't fit the typical "Cab" profile. No big tannins to speak of. Note: this is for the "Jackson Estates" Sonoma County version

Even better is the 2008 Vintnerrsquo;s Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. It is made from 100% estate fruit with 70% coming from Sonoma and 30% from Napa. A blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot, this serious Cabernet exhibits a deep ruby/purple-tinged hue as well as notes of cedar, charcoal, black cherries, licorice and herbs. Medium-bodied and rich with silky tannins and surprisingly abundant richness and extract, it should drink nicely for 5ndash;6 years, perhaps longer.
Kendall-Jackson Grand Reserve Cabernet is amazing because of the value it offers at the price. Considering the huge case production, it is astonishing that they can produce a wine with hallmark Cabernet character.
A wonderfully good wine, especially at this price. Easily the best K-J Vintnerrsquo;s Reserve ever. Inky black, full-bodied and dry, it houses rich, complex blackberry, plum and smoky oak flavors, wrapped into finely ground, firm tannins. Run, donrsquo;t walk, to find this affordable beauty.
'Opens with deep black cherry, blackberry and cassis flavors. Intense, round and well-structured tannins provide a strong backbone throughout the middle. Cedar and vanilla notes linger on the finish, beckoning another sip.' - Randy Ullom, Winemaster
The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintnerrsquo;s Reserve is another terrific wine in the Vintnerrsquo;s Reserve series. Expressive red berries, herbs, flowers and spices are some of the notes that flesh out in the glass in this polished Cabernet. Anticipated maturity: 2012ndash;2015.
A soft, cushioned red with the earthy, herbal scents of cabernet, this is plush, quiet, simple and pleasing. Pour it with lamb.
This supple, graceful red shows medium-weight currant, mineral, black licorice and spice notes. Well-proportioned, ending clean and pure. Drink now through 2018.
Always a tremendous value in California Cabernet--the 2009 is drinking beautifully now.
