Grapes for this Grand Reserve Cabernet are harvested from the Jackson Estate vineyards. Within the vineyards are lower yielding blocks that are designated specifically for the Grand Reserve wines. 92% Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with 8% of the other four bordeaux varietals (Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot) and aged for 17 months in French oak barrels. Robert Parker called it "Outstanding" scoring it 90-93 points. Wine Enthusiast Magazine gave it a 91 saying "Serious Cabernet, rich and complex and full bodied, made from Knights Valley and Alexander Valley fruit, with a few grapes from Atlas Peak and Mount Veeder. Dense and tannic now, but high toned, with waves of black currants, black cherries and oak. A good price for a Cabernet of this quality. Drink now–2012."

This Cabernet has distinct flavors of black currant, blackberry, blueberry and cassis with enticing aromas of mocha and nutmeg. Notes of smoke, cedar and tobacco leaf round out the lingering finish.
