Located in rural Carlton, Oregon, Ken Wright Cellars is devoted to showcasing the inherent quality of selected vineyard sites. With a clarity and breadth that is unequaled by other varieties, we believe Pinot noir best expresses the character of these sites. Rather than stamping wine with a varietal trademark, we see Pinot noir as a vehicle for conveying the aroma, flavor and texture of the location in which it is grown. We also have a place in our hearts for the limited production of two white wines, Chardonnay from Celilo Vineyard near White Salmon, Washington, and Pinot Blanc from Freedom Hill Vineyard. Read less

Deep ruby/ purple, very clear with little or no legs. Nose of berry, earth, chocolate, and some minerality. Opened at dinner @ Auriga, and am at home now with last half of bottle. Acidity has calmed down from three hours ago, softening nicely to allow the fruti to show more. Soft medium weight mouthfeel with a must fruit quality that draws me back. Wow the finish is going on for a good 20 seconds or more. The chocolate notes on the nose show mixed with a damp earth note on the finish. Neat wine, hope to try more of Ken's soon. [NR]

Rich plum-like nose. A little oak melded in. Sweet flavors with mustiness in nose. With time, reveals fresh hay and cherry. Gets better with time, but maybe a litlle alcoholic. Not as smooth as the Amisfield PN 04 or the Dom Chandon les Collines 05, tasted at the same time.

Drank Oct 2007. Five years after vintage, this wine was at peak maturity. Fruit forward, displaying all the characteristics of both the varietal and the terrior.

A medium-bodied, luscious Pinot with bright, ripe red fruits, succulent berries and earthy undertones. Firm tannins really make the finish.

Taut and focused, centering on black cherry and mint flavors, riding easily over the highly refined tannins into a long and spacious finish. Has plenty of energy and room to develop more with cellaring. Drink now through 2022.

Ken Wright produces more than a dozen single-vineyard Pinots in any given vintage. This wine, which sells for a fraction of the cost of those wines, uses many of the same grapes. It’s an astonishing value, lushly fruited, tangy and laced with appealing minerality. The mix of red fruits, earth, acid and mineral is a perfect encapsulation of the pricier cuvées’ strengths.

A Pinot Noir wine from Oregon in USA. 2007 Ken Wright Cellars Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard 5000ml

"Wait 'til the grapes taste good. Don't make sour wine, Papa." These are profound words from a six-year-old in a challenging harvest. But fortunately for us, Ken Wright heeded the advice of his daughter, Josie, and we were rewarded with a pretty exceptional range of wins in 2007 nonetheless. Perhaps the best known of Ken Wright's vineyard sources, the famous Shea Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton District produces some of the most legendary pinot noir fruit in Oregon, vintage after vintage. This is easily attributable to the careful attention paid to the vines, the site's slight elevation and well-drained sedimentary soils. And, for as good as these wines are, they're still reasonably priced. Which means our limited supplies will disappear quickly, so don't dawdle.

Medium in body, intensely perfumed, endlessly complex on the palate, which alternates subtle nuance and assertiveness of flavor.

Another beauty from Ken Wright Cellars and one of Oregon\'s best known vineyards.
