Ken Forrester Wines Petit Chenin Blanc Stellenbosch 2016

Winemaker's Notes:

Perfect everyday drinking wine. A youthful fresh wine with quince and pear drop flavours. Earlier picked freshness shows on palate with crunchy green apple and grapefruit flavours. Good mouthfeel and appetisingly tangy finish.

Warm melon and lemon aromas. Citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon in the mouth, this is simple and fruit forward but melts into an earthy, oaky and almost tannic finish.

A great bargain ($8-$9 in the D.C./Baltimore area) and very drinkable Chenin Blanc from South Africa's Stellenbosch region. The wine displays a pale white color and light body with citrus, limes and minerals on the nose. In the mouth the chalky minerality balances with moderate acidity for a soft feel, yet still up to fish on the grill, summer pasta dishes and just lovely with a chilled cucumber gazpacho. On the palette it offers up green apple and lime flavors with a strong presence of the classic Stellenbosch chalky minerals. A light and lively personality with just enough oomph to pair with lighter summer fair or to just enjoy on a warm summer evening on the deck.

Interesting. Just slightly too sweet for my taste, but has a surprising hint of sparkly minerality and herbaceousness that makes it acceptable. Couldn't drink a whole bottle, but would be very nice with some creamy cheeses.

Pretty middle-of-the-road for me. It wasn't bad by any stretch, but I probably won't buy it again.

Anyone who loves New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc needs to taste this very quaffable Chenin Blanc from South Africa. It's herbal and ripe, with the slightest touch of residual sugar. Perhaps the best part is that it's not a wine you have to think about too much: it tastes great and it's easy to drink.

Barrel fermented, full ripe, rich, full bodied-this wine is a great example of the harmonius balance which can be achieved between fruit and delicate oak/vanilla flavors. Bursts with dried apricots and pineapple, with a hint of vanilla and some typical Chenin honey notes on the long lasting finish.
