Kato Sauvignon Blanc 2013

Member Review by chriscage:

Pours a beautiful yellowish color, with green and light golden hues....excellent clarity and just very slight carbonation...aromas of sweet citrus...think mandarin orange, grapefruit, and honeydew melon. The flavors follow suit, albeit with much more tart mineral/citrus notes, tropical, and with a long finish. Mouthfeel is light, becoming medium as it warms, but well balanced and a great value wine within this variety. I have and will seek this out again....very good example!

Medium-bodied wine with flavor notes of grass, citrus and rind that give way to passion fruit and tropical fruit on the finish. Refreshing and crisp, it pairs well with shellfish and light, white fish.

Found Kato on sale for $9 today & tried it immediately. It compares favorably with more expensive SBs from NZ. By comparision, I like Mt. Nelson which runs $12-$15 in Michigan. Good mineral bite, not in your face citrus. Has some finesse. I give it a 4 as a good wine and a great value.

This Sauvignon Blanc immediately stands out for its vibrant aromas of melon, passionfruit and citrus enhanced by notes of dried herbs typical of Awatere fruit. The palate combines the same elegant fruit flavors with a flintiness and minerality so representative of this terroir. Enjoy this balanced, long-finishing wine now and over the next few years.A versatile food partner, pair with seafood, especially seafood pasta, pork and poultry, vegetable dishes and salads and ethnic cuisine.
