Katnook Estate Shiraz Coonawarra Prodigy 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Whilst Coonawarra is lesser known for Shiraz than Cabernet Sauvignon, the region produces outstanding examples of the variety. Katnook Estate Shiraz captures the elegance and underlying power of classic cool climate Shiraz. The wine usually matures in oak maturation for around 15 months in American oak barriques, 35% of which are new. Cellaring potential is 8 to 12 years. Ideal food matches are game, red meat dishes and hard cheeses. This wine holds attractive fruit aromas of raspberry and plum andsubtle liquorice and sweet spices are combined with sweet vanillin and light cedary oak tones combination of dark berry fruits complemented by subtle light oak. It has a generous palate structure with ripe fruit flavours of raspberry, light plum and sweet spices with underlying distinctive pepper of Coonawarra Shiraz. Sweet vanilla oak and chocolaty maturation tones combined with a fine tannin coating, adds to the wine’s lingering fruit finish.
