Velvety. Unlike the winemakers notes, I did not taste a lot of spice (which I personally don't like a lot of)... the blackberry pie and casis was spot on. This bangs a ton of fruit, yet without being overpowering. Loved it.

this wine is one of the best the best i have tasted. it had enough spice lingering to make me want to keep drinking more, and the warmth of the ripe fruit was superb!

TASTING NOTES: The Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon exudes warmth and allure. It is deep garnet in color and has enticing aromas of dark plum, cocoa powder, dried rose petal and dusty earth, laced with a subtle note of dried sage. The palate is seamless, and opulent featuring decadent dark fruit, finishing with supple, sweet, rich, and lengthy tannins. This powerful wine will unfold beautiful layers over time. WINEGROWING NOTES: The Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon is the pinnacle of our blending efforts each year. The exalted Sacrashe vineyard takes center stage, and is the basis of this blend. The vineyard contributes the mouth-coating richness and complexity, offering deep, dark earthy cassis flavors and powerfully dense tannins. From there, we search out complementary vineyards, usually from the most regarded mountain appellations, to create balance, symmetry and finesse in the wine. Lastly, we introduce vineyards with profound depth and decadence to heighten the voluptuousness and opulence that have become a hallmark character of our flagship wine. VINTAGE NOTES: An unseasonably warm spring brought early bloom and bud break. Temperatures cooled in May causing grape shatter, which resulted in uneven fruit set and further reduced an already low crop yield. As a consequence, vineyard crews worked even more diligently during verasion thinning the clusters to maintain even ripening. The growing conditions, attention to detail in the vineyards, plus a final pass through optical sorting equipment at the winery make the quality of the vintage extremely high. VARIETAL: 98% Cabernet Sauvignon 2% Cabernet Franc BARREL AGING: 24 Months ALCOHOL: 15.9%

Vintage: 2013 10/26/2016

The Halls acquired the historic St. Helena Bergfeld Winery in 2003. With a rich history spanning 150 years. Today Hall’s estate vineyards encompass more than 500 acres of classic Bordeaux varietals; Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc. As winegrowers, the Halls have a strong respect for the environment and a commitment to cutting-edge vineyard technology to yield the highest quality grapes. And under the artisanship of winemaker Steve Leveque, Hall Wines continue to set new heights in Napa Valley winemaking. Vintage after vintage, this Cabernet Sauvignon is characterized by an interplay of elegance and concentration. Robert Parker scored this 2013 98-100 and said "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall from their Sacrashe Rutherford Vineyard delivers a relatively profound set of aromatics even for a wine that’s only 11 months of age. With almost unreal richness of blue and black fruits, spring flowers, graphite and spice, this is a sensational inky, full-bodied wine that will come close to being a perfect wine when bottled after its full élevage in barrel. Spectacular!"

Vintage after vintage, this Cabernet Sauvignon is characterized by an interplay of elegance and concentration. The 2012 bottling is 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot. The fruit is selected from a spectrum of vineyards — from their Sacrashe estate in Rutherford to Bergfeld in St. Helena to Howell Mountain. The wine aged 22 Months in 80% new French oak. Robert Parker scored it 96-98 and said "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall is slightly more reticent aromatically, offering subtle hints of graphite, blackberry and cassis. Massive on the palate with extraordinary fruit extract, but no hard edges, and the vintage’s tell-tale velvety tannins, good acidity and terrific freshness and energy, this is a large-scaled, prodigious wine."

The nearly opaque purple-black color of this wine hints at its depth and power. Rife with aromas of violets, cocoa powder, stewed raspberries, blackberry nectar, and roasted herbs; the wine is luscious and dense with a sweet, focused core. Dark cherries, blackberry preserves, black spice and roasted nut flavors intermingle across a seemingly endless finish.
