Kasuari Zinfandel Napa Valley Rose Knoll Vineyard 2006
Our 2006 Napa Valley Zinfandel is from the Rose Knoll vineyard, in the Napa Valleys most southern and westerly boarders. It is here that we find ourselves enjoying the best of both worlds, up on a warm bench above the valley floor and cool breeze to offer some relief during the heat of the summer sun. The Napa Valley in particular is known as one of the best Zinfandel growing regions in the world, and this limited production wine shows why. The Kasuari 2006 Zinfandel delivers all of the characteristics Zinfandel fanatics crave – gobs of massive Asian plum, lush blackberry and Jamaican all spice with a touch of black pepper. New oak from the Nevers forest in France contributes to this spicy complexity.

Wow - this is a really stand out Zinfandel. The nose is bright fruits and licorice, with hints of toasty vanilla. A myriad of flavors dance on my tongue as I take my first sip, dark berries and dark unsweetened chocolate. The second sip reveals a smooth and almost creamy truffle component - fantastic. This wine really goes out with a bang, too - flavors of spice and espresso linger for quite a while and make my life lovely... a great wine.
This 2006 Zin is WOW. . . nuances of vanilla and lavender soap waft your way and as you inhale more deeply you realize that there is a real meatiness here as well! There are loads of lovely plum fruit which is really well rounded with a lovely mouthfeel and nice acidity. It finishes with a hint of espresso dark chocolate and a hint of pepper. Zin might be breaking out. . .
A nose of anise. vanilla, oak and bacon. This was a delicious wine that's spicey with plum fruit and a great example of what a California Zin can be. Yummy.
Aromas of anise and vanilla are the most prominent on the nose, quite different for a Zin. The taste has plum and cherry with a twist of veggies thrown in to give it an extra layer or flavor sensation.
The color is beautiful, the nose - complex. The mouthfeel is dominated by vanilla, spices, a light hint of cherries, with a slightly vegetal finish. My only problem with this zin was its heat. The alcohol came on pretty strong which distracted my palate from the flavors. The wine, however, is still young, and with another year or two under its belt and maybe an hour of decanting, this Zin will be fantastic!
Creamy rasberry, slinky elegance with a naughty spicy (cinnamon and nutmeg) side give this wine a hedonistic quality. With big air in the glass you will see many lush red fruits with floral notes and subtle briary and brownsugar notes. In the glass, with food or dabbed on you this wine is sure to draw a crowd! In six months this wine will be out standing in its field =).
