Karine Lauverjat Sancerre 2016

External Review:

Beautifully soft red Sancerre with great purity of fruit and balance. Splendid on it's own, but also to accompany grilled fish, particularly salmon, white meat dishes, and soft rind cheeses.

This is one of my 'go-to' Sauvignon Blancs, very affordable and quite refreshing. I really enjoyed the 2008 and 2009 more, but this is still tasty. It is almost an exact opposite of New Zealand SB's. Pours a light, clear and bright straw color. Mild aromas of citrus, wet stone and minerals. Starts off with zip of acidity, mostly lots of minerals. Some citrus undertones in the middle to balance out the minerality. FInishes with crisp wet stone and citrus. Very light, clean, refreshing and crisp. Nice acidity. This is versatile with light foods and can be drunk on its own.

Quince, lime and pear upfront. Oily and mineral with a crisp, gooseberry, finish. Hints of hazelnut on the finish as well. Served with sweet pea flan with a black truffle dashi.

The 2009 has more aromas and flavors than the 2010. Pours a bright and clear light straw color. Aromas of wet stones, minerals, citrus, pears along with some light floral notes. Starts off with nice pear and citrus flavors. In the middle the minerality and wet stone move to the forefront. Finishes with nice amounts of minerals with a nice citrus and pear undertone. Very clean, very refreshing. This is an easy drinker that leaves a moderately long taste on the palate. A great value wine.

The 2008 is a little more 'tropical' than the 2009 and 2010 versions. Pours a bright and clear light golden color. Aromas of citrus, especially grapefruit is present. There is also some nice minerality and quartz. Starts off with some grapefruit and lemon zest. In the middle, the minerality comes through but is still in the background. Finishes similar to the middle. Has nice acidity and is refreshing. Too much citrus flavors for me, but still a quality and affordable wine.

This has a lovely floral nose, with excellent cut to the tangy white peach, gooseberry and honeysuckle notes on the palate. The finish is long and finely tuned.
