What to Expect

Pinotage, a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, is considered to be one of the classic grapes from South Africa. It can produce a very distinctive wine with a hint of rubber on the nose that leads to a rather fruity palate with notes of banana, plum and cherry. While the grape is high in tannins, the wine is produced in a broad range of styles.

Right... Now I've tasted quite a few SA pinotages over the years and found it a hard variety to fall in love with until now. I tasted this at a friends house about a year ago. Next day I owned 16 cases. If you like expressive Syrah's, this will be your next favourite toy. And yes, I'm down to 12 cases (14.03.09), but I'm trying to be good.

Pours a very deep purple colour. Blackberry and plum flavour with added spice yet an earthy streak throughout and beyond drinking yet not as much as other Pinotages I have before. Although the bottle says hint of banana, I don't personally get the taste but I certainly get the dry mouth quality that I would get after eating one.
