Kangarilla Road Cabernet Sauvignon Mclaren Vale 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Enthusiast Review Rated 90 Full-bodied and youthfully tannic, but quite promising, this wine features a big core of cassis fruit and plenty of oak-derived embellishment. Its not herbal, but not pruny either, hitting the sweet spot between under- and overripe. Good now, but should hold through at least 2013. Wine Tasting Notes Aromas of sweet berries combine with hints of violets and mint followed by a full palate of rich dark spicy fruit leaving trails of dark chocolate, licorice and cherries.

Kangarilla Road is the main road running past the vineyard towards the small village of Kangarilla, the name a derivation of the Australian Aboriginal language and refers to the abundance of resources locally. McLaren Vale is for us the best region in Australia to achieve the wine styles that we want to produce. This vineyard and winery - which was originally established back in 1975 - offers us 30 acres of mature vines that contribute rich fruit characters so typical of McLaren Vale. Lots of fruit - cassis and cherry flavors. A bit of oak, and nice tannins. Had this over a bit of Stilton and it was outstanding. Excellent value at under 20 bucks.

this is an outstanding wine, smooth chocolate, fruit/cherries with a perfection of balance between fruit and tannin, presents the boldness of a cab with the balance that it deserves

Average at best - tart and thin. There are much better choices out there at this price.

A deep, curranty cabernet padded with oak, this is firm and clean, made for a steakhouse.

Focused and generous with its blueberry and currant fruit, nicely framed with hints of mineral and spice, finishing with a creamy texture. Drink now through 2011.

Big, ripe and generous, a huge mouthful of ripe cherry, sweet oak and an undercurrent of mint making it interesting as the flavors persist on the round finish. Drink now through 2010.

One of my favorite McLaren Vale wineries, Kangarilla Road offers very realistic prices for the quality of their wines. The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon is a fine value. Aged in a combination of new and used French and American oak, it offers a classic Cabernet bouquet of subtle mint intermixed with cedar wood, black currants, and blackberries. With full-bodied, dense, opulent flavors, low acidity, and ripe, sweet tannin, this beauty can be enjoyed now and over the next 7ndash;8 years.

The 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon may be one of the best buys in Cabernet Sauvignon in the marketplace. A 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 18 months in both French and American oak, it exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as classic creme de cassis, toasty oak, and licorice characteristics. This dense, opulently textured, pure, rich, flavorful red reveals sweet tannin in addition to a long, velvety-textured finish. Drink it over the next 7ndash;8 years.
