Kamen Estate Syrah Sonoma Valley 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

Notes on the Kamen Syrah Sonoma Valley 2005 : WINE ADVOCATE REVIEW: 89-91 POINTS The 2005 Syrah (still not in bottle, surprisingly) continues to boast notes of licorice, pepper, spice, and black fruit character. I definitely prefer the Cabernet Sauvignons to this varietal, at least as it is made by Kamen, but this wine certainly has outstanding potential and remains me of a high-class Crozes-Hermitage from France. This small artisinal estate produces a total of just over 1,000 cases, with the vineyards organically farmed by Philip Coturri. Winemaking consultant Mark Herold is the wizard behind the wines, which seem to be going from strength to strength. It would be hard to argue against the fact that Kamen is now producing one of the top four or five Cabernet Sauvignons from Sonoma.WINEMAKER NOTES: Our 2005 Syrah is a very deep, dark, saturated purple with lovely, highly perfumed aromas of rich, ripe black fruits - black berries, black cherries with notes of spice and earthiness. Expansive and multi-layered, elements of licorice and white pepper heighten its overall sense of richness. Lush, full-bodied and opulent on the palate, the wine displays sweet tannins, notes of crme de cassis, a creamy texture, along with appealing bacon fat notes. The wine has a long, lingering finish and has outstanding aging potential.KAMEN SYRAH SONOMA VALLEY 2005

While we utilize the best that science and technology can offer, we also believe in intuition. Attention to detail, nurturing low yields and maintaining a ruthless stance with regard to quality are all part of the mantra. The careful harvesting of fully mature fruit and very gentle pressing and handling of the juice form the cornerstone of our winemaking practices. Our winemaking philosophy is quite simple: ripe fruit, low yields, and high quality. Quality. Quality. Quality. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
