What to Expect

Argentina, and in particular the region around Mendoza, is making a name for itself as the source of some of the finest expressions of Malbec ever made. In this warm, yet dry climate the Malbec achieves near perfect ripeness endowing the wines with a velvety texture and intense flavors of blackberry, peppery spice, and balsamic herbs. The cooler, well-drained slopes of the hillsides of the region have proven to be ideally suited for Malbec, allowing for the wines to achieve a level of complexity and harmony that rivals those of Napa or Bordeaux.

Winemakers Notes

Its purple almost blue color, showcases blueberries and cassis notes accompanied by elegant violet and moka aromas. On the mouth it is intense and powerful, showing the gentle and sweet tannins, characteristic of the Malbec variety and Kaiken's winemaking style. This wine has a unique balance between alcohol and acidity, achieved due to the high thermal amplitude of the higher winemaking zones in Mendoza and Uco Valley (1000 meters above sea level).
100% Malbec; 80% aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. Ready to enjoy now, this wine will age well for at least 10 years. Decant 30-45 min. before drinking.

Inky,purple in color. Aromas of blueberry, blueberry and blueberry. Smooth mouthfeel with intense fruit forward flavors of blueberry. Very smooth tannins excellent midpalate.

A fantastic value wine. Has won many awards and has received many high ratings from numerous wine critics (not that wine critics are the be all and end all).

I have thoroughly enjoyed this wine, and have cellared 5 bottles for further enjoyment over the next 3 - 5 years.

You'll be hard pressed to find a wine of this quality, at this price.

Chocolate front? Quiet bold, lots of body. Mocha, Mocha ... to the point where we served it with Cheese and Chocolate medley postres and tart citron (did not go with tart - liquor muscat or sauterne). Chocolate, Colombian coffee, Manchego, Blue, Mature French Cheese, Olives, Nuts, Champagne grapes ... - good match.
At Costco for $16.95. Rating 90/100. ? To cellar. Interesting.

Mocha, tobacco, oak! Be careful to get the real thing: Kaiken Malbec Ultra -- as opposed to just the Kaiken Malbec. Very different quality of wines! I found the 2006 Malbec Ultra outstanding for the price -- $14.99
