Kaiken Malbec 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes Of a deep violet color, warm in the nose, with notes of ripe fruit and traces of tobacco and butterscotch. In the mouth it displays intensity, with strong, fleshy tannins; while at the same time juicy and enveloping; with a long, persistent finish. A harmonious liaison with the wood, makes of this wine a fine example of the Mendoza terroir.

It was precisely the wines of Argentina that attracted Montes into that country. For that same reason we imposed upon ourselves, right from the start, in 2001, the task of acquiring for KAIKEN the best grapes produced in the area. It was precisely the wines of Argentina that attracted Montes into that country. For that same reason we imposed upon ourselves, right from the start, in 2001, the task of acquiring for KAIKEN the best grapes produced in the area. We went through all the best grape producing estates, finally deciding for the exceptional quality of that in the First Zone (Maipú, Cruz de Piedra, Ugarteche, Agrelo) as well as from Valle de Uco. Along with a hard selection of the best producers, we meticulously supervise each step and work in the vineyard from start to finish of each growing season, observing well each little detail. This, to attain the full potential from the best grapes. Read less

I give this four glasses taking price into account. This wine is nicely balanced with a fruity punch and dry finish. Tastes more like a $20+ Califorina Cab. I don't care for the purple Malbecs, etc. from Argentina either.

Just right for a low priced Malbec. Rich flavor and deep red. Nice bottle.

It is a great value wine, sturdy and complex with what South America is best offers. More texture here than most cabs, good with something like steak cooked on an open flame getting some char and black pepper. It's a must try, just be a fan of a textured experience because it's not silky, more of a masculine wine. I fell in love with the 2003 cab and saved one bottle to blind taste with friends against the 2007. Still amazing!

Dark and bold fruit with very little tang or alcohol bite. Dangerous to me, very very easy to drink. Worth the price over a non-ultra.

For the price, this is at least a 4.5. It has the taste of what I would expect in a 16 to 18 dollar bottle of wine. I was looking for a bargain bottle of wine and I found it. Normally when I buy a bottle looking for a bargain, I drink perhaps one fourth of it, and toss the rest, but not this one.
