Kaiken Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva 2002
Untitled Document2002 Cabernet Sauvignon; Monte Rosso VineyardClub Price $38.40 - Regular Price $48.00This wine is a true reflection of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape and the vineyard from where it was grown. That vineyard is known as Monte Rosso and it is one of the oldest and most celebrated vineyards in Sonoma County. Perched upon the Mayacamas range at over 1000 elevation, it is named for its distinct red soil comprised of mineral-rich decomposed volcanic rock. Difficult growing conditions and low yields produce grapes of uncommon character and result in fabulous, age-worthy wines.2002 was another stellar vintage here on the north coast of California. This wine is darkly colored, richly textured, plush and loaded with rich, ripe fruit. It opens to aromas of blackberry, cherries, and a core of currants with a hint of minty spice and vanillin. Velvety and thick on the finish, it is framed by a touch of toasted oak.Monte Rosso designated Cabernet Sauvignon is our flagship wine and we are proud to share with you this 2002 version.

Beautiful perfume of red berry. Aromas of currant, raspberry, strawberry and cherry with licorice hints. Luscious ripe red berry fruit on the palate. This wine is peaking now in my opinion. Ripe red currant and cherry flavors. Really beautiful fruit. Great acidity and tannin still, but is driven by pretty fruit tones. Very fragrant. Drink now! 92 pts. 5/18/13

94 Points "The 2002 Monte Bello exhibits aromas of tar, cedar, damp earth, white chocolate, black cherries, and sweet black currants. This full-bodied, dense, tannic 2002 is even more closed this year than it was last." Wine Advocate, #162 Dec 2005, Robert Parker
Deep ruby in color, this Cab is ripe with fruit and spices, supported nicely by cedar shadings and firm tannins that give it plenty of backbone.

Some Merlot added to the Cabernet creates a jammy, soft nose and a round, easy mouthfeel. The fruit is pure throughout, with tasty cassis and plum lifted by light tannins. With chocolate and spice on the finish, this is a fine Cabernet for the price.
The 2002 Monte Bello Proprietary Red Wine (74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 8% Petit Verdot) exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color in addition to extremely ripe aromas of black currants, white flowers, chocolate, and smoky, toasty oak.
