Kaesler Cabernet-Shiraz Blend Barossa Valley W.O.M.S 2004

Member Review by RPerro:

Drank with Kristina on my 38th birthday. This wine was absolutely amazing! Brought to a local Italian restaurant (popped & poured). Incredible nose of dark cherry with a herbal component. Very pretty. Huge flavors of cherry, vanilla, oak, tobacco and chocolate. In fact, this wine was like chocolate in a glass! A smooth and lush, mouth-coating wine, very well integrated. I didn't get overwhelmed by the oak at all, although it was very evident. An extrordinary effort...one of the best wines I've tasted to date!

Kaesler:
Kaesler is a privately owned wine company that produces estate grown wines from vineyards as old as 1893. The Kaesler family were pioneers who settled in the Barossa Valley in the 1840’s. In 1891 they bought a parcel of land and in 1893 planted their first vines. Today Kaesler wines are made from these ancient, dry grown vineyards, by the third owners of this magnificent property.

Having tasted this before in an ideal setting (and with food) on my birthday, I was doubting this rating would be as high as last time (98/100), and I was right. Color is a dark ruby. Nose is all raspberry, with LOTS of yummy earth aromas. On the palate, you can instantly tell the wine has incredible integration. Big flavors of raspberry and earth mingle with chewy tannins, sharp acidity and a bit of oak. They all play together nicely, making the wine absolutely delicious!
