Editorial Reviews for Justin Vineyards & Winery Syrah Paso Robles
This wine is on the soft side with deep wild raspberry and blackberry tones that are framed with a note of moist earth and oak driven vanilla and spice tones. Definitely a bigger, richer style yet one that remains soft and supple if lacking much of the spice and meatiness of the grape. 87pts
Nose of graphite laced blackberry and boysenberry with cracked black pepper, sweet vanilla, herbs and smoke. Flavors of blackberry and cherry with dried herbs and smoked meat. Nice hints of pepper and minerality. Nice complexity and well layered. Tasty wine. 88 pts. 9/1/12 at winery
Nice, but more spicy than inky, and I like inky Syrahs.
Nice Syrah at the price point. Rich with some nice spicy fruit on the front.
Justin Winery is one California's best. This 07 syrah was recently released, it's well structured and a bit tight. Nose of Blueberry and hint of vanilla, dry, with good acidity and firm tannins. Needs a bit of time and some hours in the decanter.
One of my favorite wineries, the 2006 doesn't have quite as much fruit as previous vintages but it is still an excellent wine.
Dark fruit, dried berries; inky color; chalky, lightly tannic mouthfeel; decent finish. Quite good w/ lamb chops.
I was lucky enough to obtain this bottle for about $10 on WineBid.com ($75 from Justin library wines) from one of my all-time favorite wineries, Justin. Justin is a wonderful family-owned winery know for making award-winning Bordeaux-style blends in a medium price range. They also make wonderful single varietals, including a fantastic Syrah. While on the fringe of peak maturity, the 2001 is still drinking wonderfully. This is a big wine, with %15 alcohol, and its bottle age adds balance to a deep wine, with rich black cherry and vanilla oak flavors. The tannins are smooth and round and the alcohol is apparent. I find that Justin Syrahs fit neatly between the more massive, jammy Australian Shiraz and the leaner, more complicated Rhône Valley wines, the result being a wine with a less spicy, softer, mouth feel and a focus on fruit and smooth oak accents. my blog: http://corksandcaftans.wordpress.com/category/corks/
External Reviews for Justin Vineyards & Winery Syrah Paso Robles
This grape is beginning to outshine all our other varietal reds because of its sheer deliciousness. Its color is dense, its perfume exotically floral and peppercorn-spicy, and its midpalate and finish stellar in containing all the most intense fruit Paso Robles can deliver. Framed well by mostly French barrels, our Syrah delivers great intensity and fine value.
Opaque core, with a deep crimson rim. Clove and dark fruit on the nose. The palate offers flavors of chocolate mocha and ripe black fruits of boysenberry and spicy plum, with notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and mineral, which delicately coat the sides of... Eddie Wolowski. Color: Purple with a bright red rim.Aroma: Floral notes, combined with blueberry, plum and overtones of caramel and butterscotch.Palate: Spice and black fruit, with a weighty mid-palate, and a soft, lengthy finish.
Light purple/ruby core with lighter rim. Candied raspberry and blueberry aromas are complemented and tempered buy darker earth notes and a slight hint of pepper. Very soft and smooth on the palate with low acidity, a mouthful of red fruit flavors a... John Perry. A Syrah wine from California in USA. 2006 Justin Vineyard Syrah 750ml
