Justin Cabernet California Justin 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Ruby-red core to a cherry-red rim, this young Cabernet displays generous fruit in the nose. Some sweet black and red fruits, like blackberry, raspberry and fig, mingle with caramel and vanilla from the American oak. The entry is soft, mouth coating and filled with delicious red berry and sweet black plum. The wine itself is dry and palate filling, with a soft but well-structured, velvet finish. Tannins are modest but present in this youthful but approachable Cabernet Sauvignon.

This was the first of the Justin Vineyards wines I have reviewed. I was averagely pleased with this wine but looking forward to the more prestigious selections from this label.

Everything I love in a Cali Cab. Tart bright cherries with a complex finish. Really great stuff.

Bright jammy nose of warm red berries. Super rich palate of red berry fruit. Very rich, juicy and mouth-coating wine. Decadent but not overly powerful or out of balance. Very nice!

Restrained, crouching monster. An almost opaque ruby red; unfiltered, hand harvested with a whopping 15% alcohol that you would never know is there (unless you finish the bottle), this Cabernet needs breathing time. After a few minutes in the glass, ripe black cherry, black currant and tobacco aromas begin to unfurl. The body is densely packed with dark berry fruits and dusty tannins. Amazingly balanced, the wine never comes across as hot. The finish is long and chewy - an endurance champion. Rumor has it that this single barrel bottling, especially set aside for the Premier Group, is the same Cab destined for Justin's Reserve label.

Color: Ruby red core with a bright crimson rim. Aroma: Ripe black and red fruit: blackberry, raspberry, cherry. Oak notes of toast and vanilla are forthcoming and generous. Palate: Red berry and sweet black plum, dry and palate filling, with modest tannins and a well-structured, lingering finish.

We have long enjoyed the velvety, succulent Cabernets from Justin, and last year we had the opportunity to put together our own blend. This special cuvée was selected by our staff after visiting the winery in August, and we know you will be delighted with it. Dense and dark, but so soft and seamless it's like crushed black cherry velvet. Enjoy it with a nice fillet or sirloin of beef.

Rich and intense, with potent currant, leather, roasted coffee and nuts. Holds its focus and finishes with a complex mix of spice, dried dark fruits and ripe tannins. Drink now through 2012.

The wine has dark ruby color. A bittersweet chocolate note accentuates jammy fruit aromas of raspberry, sweet cherry and plum. The wine is lush and sumptuous on the palate with chocolate, cherry and rich plum flavors.

Dark purple with a surrounding outline of cherry red. Aromas of black cherry, currant and vanilla jump out of the glass. A soft, delicate entry is woven into a long, intense palate that features flavors of blueberry, cassis and a touch of spice. Supple, ripe tannins with a hint of chocolate hover on the finish.
