This is youthful and packed with fresh black cherry fruit, chipotle, some well integrated wood spice, a fine faint grassy tone, a top not of vanilla and a vein of grilled steak with A1 sauce. Cool and crisp in the mouth with excellent focus and good depth. This is a big wine but it’s also quite elegant with spice and mineral notes offering fine cut on the palate and great persistence of fresh black fruit on the long finish. This is still tight and probably needs another 3 years to hit its stride. A great showing today. 94pts

Full and deep on the nose with an underlying herb and rocky soil tone upon which are layered of ripe red currant, dried green chili, carob, light notes of woodspice and cedar and gentle top notes hinting at flowers. Very fresh and light on entry though this immediately displays a layered attack of licorice, bittersweet chocolate, and dried cherry fruit. The tannins are present, and slightly drying but the don’t effect the texture of the wine which remains cool and crisp. A rather firm yet elegant style of Cabernet with full ripeness though the fruit retains a tell tale vegetal note in the mouth which turns quite aromatic and minty on the long, elegant finish which ends with a nutty, chocolaty note and a tiny bit of heat. A wine with a future though aromatically and texturally it is terrific today. 92pts

I am really enjoying this wine - lighter in color than you would think for a cab - rich fruit without being over powering - seems a bit light in flavor though for a really good cab but we paid $45 for it and that makes it worth it - $80 would be a bit much since I expect a little deeper richer wine for the $80 price - excellent finish and feels great in the mouth with no acidity

Medium light in color. Some cranberry colored edges. The nose has some red cherries and a bright cassis and floral notes. The palate reveals some soft fruits of red cherries, raspberries, and pomegranate. Lots of pomegranate. Nice mouth feel and a slightly pronounced acid level make this seem very bright and airy. (There goes that word again: bright). The 3% cab franc is evident in the nose as well s the finish. 94% Oakville fruit with the alance being from Spring Mountain. Strangely, this reminds me very much of a Spring Mountain wine. Possibly the mountain fruit taking over more than the proportions would suggest? Very 'Bordeaux' in style, I can see lovers of big bold cabs not finding this too interesting, but is surely has a place in my cellar and on my table.

Juslyn's top wine is just under the legal limit to call it Cabernet Sauvignon. It's surprisingly soft and accessible for a Spring Mountain Cab, offering immediate pleasure with its juicy, upfront blackberry liqueur and cocoa flavors. It's certainly a complex, balanced, elegant wine, and quite drinkable now. But it should hold and even improve for a decade.

From the 7-acre estate vineyard (Juslyn owns a total of 40 acres), the deep, dark ruby/purple-hued 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot) exhibits notions of crushed rocks, subtle oak, blackberries, blueberries, and cherries. It possesses full body, excellent purity, a multidimensional mid-palate as well as texture, and a lovely finish. Still young and unevolved, it should hit its peak in 3-5 years, and last for two decades.
