What to Expect

Tannat is a grape most frequently associated with the Madiran region of France, though it has become increasingly successful in South America, particularly Uruguay. It produces a rich, rustic wine with considerable tannins and a smoky, spicy character that adds complexity to its deep tones of black raspberry fruit.

"Red-ruby. High-toned aromas of dark berries and minty oak. Suave on entry, then laid-back in the middle palate and not at all overly sweet, offering nicely restrained berry and spice flavors. Finishes with good breadth and sweet tannins, with a suggestion of toffee. In a rather suave, classic style, but I would like to have found a bit more vibrancy..." -IWC 02/08
