Juan Alcorta Tempranillo Blend Rioja Marques de Villamagna Reserva 2004

Member Review by TriumphDaytona:

This wine is ready to drink now and for the next 3 years. I don't think it could age too well past that point but would be a delight for those who want an amazing, drinkable 2004-vintage Rioja right now in 2011. This is medium-full bodied. The tannins are present, refined but not as dominant as the 'typical' Rioja tempranillo. The nose is beautiful, offering cherry, raspberry, maybe a LITTLE wild strawberry mixed with some coffee and tobacco notes. On the palate I would say it tends to be more of a New World style simply due to the fact that it is so bold. The berries come out in full form but the minerality and herbs (maybe sage/clove?) round it out nicely. Of course the tannins polish off the flavour quite well. The wine has a long finish. Still tasting it about a minute after... All in all, this is a beautiful wine. I very much enjoy this. I don't really recommend this with food. If so, I recommend a sweeter spread (i.e. sweeter cheeses, honeys, preserves, sweet chutneys, fruits, some sweet fresh almonds would be amazing).
