Give plenty of breathing time for this to open up fully, you need the full experience of the aroma - a generous and rather gorgeous cedery-edged black fruit medley. The palate, with its tightly grained tannins and a tense acidity core is lightly sweet; a toffee edge, a chocolate tinge, an earthy dimension all combining into a nicely complex whole. Long lasting finish. http://www.spittoon.biz/the_journeys_end_range_from_so.html

Winemaker's Notes:

Located in Stellenbosch, with vineyards adjacent to Vergelegen and Morgenster, Journey's End is right at the heart of one of the cape's most exciting terroirs. bought and replanted by the Gabb family in 1996, the last ten years have seen the estate grow into one of the most talked about in the region. The wines have won accolades and medals at wine competitions around the world ever since the maiden vintages of the Cabernet and Chardonnay achieved 4 and 5 star ratings from the prestigious John Platter Guide in 2004. The philosophy in both the vineyards and cellar follows a minimum intervention approach to ensure the quality of the fruit shines through. This great value Merlot displays upfront blackberries and plums, backed by vibrant mintiness on the nose. Some herbal eucalyptus tones give the wine a pleasant earthy caracter. On the palate, there is ripe black fruit flavours with firm tannins and a supple sweetness that gives the wine a lingering aftertaste. It is a full-bodied, complex wine that pairs well with roast beef.
