Let me start by saying, I love Pinot. I tend to be bit harsh when reviewing Pinots. The Fog Dog pinot is 'second label' from the FreeStone Vineyard which is a new label from Jospeh Phelps. It is based in Sonoma County. The wine had red fruit (raspberry, cherry) and toast in the nose. Flavor had a burn to it for me. Seemed high in alchol and the finish was long. Good effort but not my style.

Tasted a second time. This time the wine seemed to grow on me. Tasted a little more line a carneros pinot. Lite in style and more focus on fruit.

Hints of sandalwood, wild blackberry and balsamic reduction, dried tea leaves, and a melange of Indian spices. This wine is serious, yet restrained, and has a backbone of natural acidity, tannin and minerality to provide the structure necessary for aging.
