Quite dark color. Fairly volatile nose, but also with strong oak and currant. Very rich on introduction to the tongue and palate—lots of black (currant and blackberry) fruit with a strong suggestion of chocolate. Definitely a big, mouth-filling wine. “Sweetness” may be from the fruit or it may be from the alcohol. Very tame tannin suggests to me that this wine may have plateaued. Looking forward to having this one with grilled beef, tonight.

Very rich dark color in the glass. Mostly, an earthy, woody nose--slight berry fruit. Fruit shows on the tongue. Lots of cabernet cassis flavor on the tip of the tongue, then a hint of clove. Quite velvety as it travels over the tongue. As it gets to the side edges of the tongue I get the tannin/acid hit. Not the biggest cab you'll ever drink, but this wine has quite a few years left in it. US$38.99 at Wine Club in Santa Ana in 2004.

Winemaking Notes: Grapes were sorted and cold soaked prior to fermentation. The wine was aged for eighteen months in 40% new oak barrels (65% French, 35% American) and 60% one- to two-year-old French and American oak barrels before bottling. The barrel coopers used included Ermitage, François Frères, Demptos (French & American), Canton (American), Barrel Associates (American) and Orion. The Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2015 vintage is inky purple in color with aromas of dense blackberry jam, cassis and balsamic followed by a layering complexity throughout the mouthfeel of supple, sweet tannins with expressive ripe plum, vanilla and rich black fruit. Growing Season: The 2015 Napa Valley growing season experienced dry, mild winter and spring temperatures similar to the prior three growing seasons. The majority of Cabernet Sauvignon was 50% through bud break by the end of March, followed by a normal period of bloom. May temperatures were unseasonably cool, but summer months were consistently warm, with heat spikes in September and October, creating conditions for a low-yielding vintage of high quality fruit from one of the earliest and most condensed harvests on record. Small berries and loose clusters led to intensely concentrated, rich flavors and full-bodied wines from the 2015 vintage. Blend: 78% Cabernet Sauvignon 15% Merlot 3% Petit Verdot 2% Malbec 2% Cabernet Franc

Winemaking Notes: Grapes were sorted and cold soaked prior to fermentation. The wine was aged for eighteen months in 45% new oak barrels (55% French, 45% American) and 55% two-year-old French and American oak barrels before bottling in June, 2016. The barrel coopers used included Ermitage, François Frères, Demptos (French & American), Canton (American) and Barrel Associates (American). Tasting Notes: The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon highlights blackberry, dried blueberry and violet with notes of graphite and cloves followed by opulent layers of black currant jam, roasted coffee, tobacco, dried fig and vanilla bean. A full-bodied, deeply concentrated wine with supple tannins and a lengthy finish. Growing Season: The 2014 Napa Valley growing season began with mild winter temperatures and dry conditions until February. Spring rains brought much needed moisture to the soil and filled our vineyard reservoirs. Bud break occurred three to four weeks earlier than 2013 with an average period between bud break and bloom. Frost was of no issue and the February and March rains provided for optimum vine growth. Consistent temperatures during the summer growing months with very few heat spikes created ideal ripening conditions for an early harvest. At the onset of harvest, the flavors, acidity and tannins were further along in their development than the two previous years. Grapes achieved phenomenal fruit characteristics early and their maturation occurred at a steady, even pace. Consistency in the blocks and intense flavors at harvest were key characteristics to 2014. Blend: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon 8% Merlot 4% Petit Verdot 2% Malbec 2% Cabernet Franc ** Only 3 in Stock **

The 2012 vintage marks the fortieth Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon release from Joseph Phelps Vineyards. This latest bottling highlights beautiful aromatics of dark fruit, cigar box, dried herbs, graphite notes and pain grillé. Expressive Bing cherry, licorice, blueberry and blackberry layer this silky smooth wine of great depth and personality. Richly nuanced with supple tannins and a lingering velvety finish. - Winery

Rich and concentrated in red cherry, cigar and plum, this demurely approachable and enjoyable wine has the legs to age. Structured and tightly drawn, it holds a tannic overbite that eases in the glass. Cellar through 2017.
